When a tooth dies the nerve leave a “vacant” space inside the tooth. If the human body could grow new blood vessels up the thin space from the root tip into the body of the tooth there would be no need for root canals. But we don’t have that kind of healing power. “The Force” is not with us to that extent as it is in, for instance…Possums! To keep germs from taking refuge in this vacant space we fill the inner root of the tooth with a sealer to keep the germs out. This is called a “root canal”. My waterlaser lets me to most root canals very simply. The light both sterilizes the inside of the tooth, and enlarges the hair-sized space into a space large enough for me to easily put a sealer in the root. Root canals have not been left out of the technological revolution, which is now sweeping dentistry. An interesting insight can be gained by referring to my “x-rays and toothaches 1925” article at the bottom of my homepage. The last part of the article was written before dentists could do modern root canals, and instead left the teeth “vacant” inside. A long-gone world is described there, one no living dentist can remember.
